Paedo raped two boys – one as young as 7 – jailed for 25 years
A serial paedo who raped and sexually assaulted two boys – one who was so young he had only been in primary school for 3 years – has been jailed for more than 25 years.
Foreigner Syrwan Hakim repeatedly committed sex attacks on his victims – from when they were as young as seven and 10 – across a period of 15 years.
This came to light when one victim courageously came forward to report the historic crimes to the force earlier this year.
He spoke to specialist officers from the force’s Public Protection Unit who offered support and launched an investigation.
Enquiries established another boy had also suffered similar physical and emotional torment at the hands of Hakim.
Following a trial, he was convicted of 23 offences including rape, sexual assault, attempted rape and assault.
The 44-year-old of Holly Road, Handsworth, was sentenced to 26 years in jail at Birmingham Crown Court.
He was also placed on the sex offender register for life, given indefinite restraining orders and sexual harm prevention orders to prevent him from contacting boys under the age of 18.
DC Philip Langstone, from the child abuse investigation team, said:
“Hakim preyed on their age and innocence to repeatedly carry out sex attacks on these boys.
“We don’t underestimate the trauma this would have caused them to relive what happened but it is through this bravery we have been able to protect others by putting Hakim behind bars for a long time.
“We know how difficult it can be for people to come forward and report what happened to us, which is why we have specialist officers available to support them through this.”
