Why did cops swarm Brum City this week?

Why did West Mids Police Central cops swarm Birmingham City Centre this week?

City feds joined forces with local agencies to tackle low level crime and anti-social behaviour this week.

The ‘All Out Day’ saw officers from the neighbourhood team along with British Transport Police patrolling areas on foot and bicycle where rough sleepers and drug users had left unsightly rubbish, as well as used needles.

Council employees cleared areas off New Street, Navigation Street, Five Ways Island and Pagoda Island. Weapon sweeps were conducted in Eastside Park and Jubilee Park on the canal network and local car parks were patrolled where vehicle crime has been an issue.

Four people were arrested – one for shoplifting and three wanted for previous assault offences. Officers used dispersal powers where begging had been highlighted and three stop and search checks were conducted. Three Fixed Penalty Notices were issued and two cars were seized.

Neighbourhood Policing Manager Inspector Suraya Latif said:

“Historically we have seen an increase in crime, anti-social behaviour and calls for service during the summer period and in particular the school holidays.

“We work closely with partner agencies as well as local businesses and organisations to reduce offending, while offering support and sign-posting to tackle the longer term solution.

“We spoke to many businesses and members of the public yesterday and the feedback was very positive. We are aiming to continue our ‘All out Days’ throughout the summer.”
