A pair of drug dealing Brummie brothers have been jailed.

Officers recovered crack cocaine and heroin after acting on intelligence to raid the home of Muhammad and Rizwan Azam in Sparkhill.

The area’s neighbourhood team executed the warrant on 18 February last year and found a number of phones, evidence of Class A drugs and cannabis, along with hundreds of pounds in the address.

Shortly after officers entered the property in Avondale Road, two containers had been thrown from a window and were found to have packaged Class A drugs inside.

The pair both admitted possession of drugs with intent to supply ahead of a trial at Birmingham Crown Court; after accepting the weight of evidence built up from neighbourhood officers, investigators and through forensic analysis.

Muhammad Azam, aged 22, was sentenced to three years and four months and Rizwan Azam, 20, was given a jail term of two years and nine months yesterday (26 June).

DC John Winter, of West Midlands Police’s force CID, said:

“Officers carried out this raid after responding to concerns about drugs within the community.
“We managed to seize Class A and B drugs, some of which would have undoubtedly flooded onto the streets.
“We all know the harm that drugs can cause and will pursue anyone we believe has links to the illegal trade.
“We need communities to help be our ‘eyes and ears’ and report any suspicious behaviour so we can keep their area drugs free.”
