Man charged over West Bromwich murder as police name victim

West Mids Police has charged a man with murder following the discovery of a man’s body in West Bromwich earlier this week.

Marcus Parchment is accused of assaulting Damien Howl and leaving him with fatal head injuries in an alleyway behind his home in Heath Lane.

Mr Howl, from West Bromwich, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition in the early hours of 5 June but he failed to recover from his injuries and died later the same day.

A post mortem examination revealed the 42-year-old suffered a head injury consistent with being assaulted.

West Mids Police detectives arrested Parchment, also 42, shortly after Mr Howl’s body was found and last night detectives charged him with murder.

He is set to appear at Walsall Magistrates Court (8 June).

A statement issued on behalf of Mr Howl’s family described him as having “a heart of gold”.

It reads:

“Damien was a much-loved son, father, brother, uncle and boyfriend. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone he could. Damo, as we all knew him, was a loving and funny man who enjoyed being kept busy.

“There are no word to express how devastated we all are at his loss. As a family we would appreciate privacy at this difficult time to process and grieve.”
