Two teens charged over Grindr robberies in Yardley

Two teenage boys have been charged with robbery in connection with three attacks on men who had arranged dates through the Grindr app.

The victims were separately attacked and robbed by a group in Yardley after being contacted for potential dates.

These took place off Yardley Green Road on 5 January and 18 March; and off Hob Moor Road last Sunday, 24 March.

Officers arrested two male youths aged 17, plus a 16-year-old lad from the Bordesley Green area on suspicion of robbery.

One of the 17-year-olds was charged and remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

As part of the on-going investigation, officers arrested another two teenagers on Friday evening on suspicion of involvement in the attacks; bringing the total number of arrests to five.

The teens aged, 17 and 18, were questioned by detectives. As a result the 17-year-old was charged with one count of robbery.

He’s been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates.

The other three teenagers arrested as part of the investigation have been released under police bail with strict conditions. The investigation into the incidents remains on-going.

If you’re planning to meet someone you’ve met on any dating app, the safest place to meet is in a well-populated public area, say police.

Officers suggest making sure someone you trust knows where you’ll be.
