QE & Heartlands doc who had sex chat with underage girl, jailed

A Birmingham A&E doctor who engaged in online sex chats with a teenage girl has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Dr Timothy Evans, who worked at the Queen Elizabeth and Good Hope hospitals as a registrar, encouraged the victim to reveal intimate parts of her body.

The 39-year-old was found guilty of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Disgraced: Timothy Evans

Evans, from the Harborne area of Birmingham, was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. He’s also been handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

He was originally arrested on 20 April 2016 on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity in front of a child, in relation to an incident on Castle Vale seven days before. He was charged and later acquitted of the offence at court.

As part of the investigation, police had seized computers from his home in April 2016 – it was found he’d set up a fake Skype profile and was using it to speak to a 13-year-old girl back in February 2012.

Evans denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty, but was convicted by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court following a week trial in December 2018.

He was sentenced on Friday 15 March.
