Teens jailed for attempted car-jacking
Two teenagers who tried to carjack a VW Golf have been handed lengthy sentences, as police vowed to keep up the pressure on vehicle thieves.
CCTV shows Mohammed Sohail, of Kimberley Walk in Sutton Coldfield, and Abdul Jabar, of Goosemoore Lane, Erdington, pouncing on the victim seconds after he had parked his VW Golf on his drive on 16 August last year.
The man was knocked to the ground as he tried to fend the pair off. Luckily, he wasn’t seriously injured, but the attackers fled with his phone and wallet.
The pair were arrested and went on to admit robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
At Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (14 February), the pair were each sentenced to three years and nine months.
Investigating officer DC Craig Dando, from force CID, said:
“This was a violent offence involving the use of a weapon. I’d like to thank the public that helped us to identify these two men and bring them to justice.
“I hope that the result of the investigation and the sentence is of some comfort to the victim and will act as a real deterrent to others.”
