Major cannabis factory uncovered by drugs squad in Birmingham
A major cannabis factory spread across three floors of an empty towerblock has been uncovered by police.
Hundreds of plants with an estimated street value of almost half a million pounds were found at Warstone Tower in Bromford Drive, after a member of the public called officers this week (24 Jan).
Secure doors had been fitted, and electricity and water had been diverted to help the growing operation.
Cannabis was found growing on the 16th floor, with equipment also found across 31 rooms on the 15th and 17th floors.
Five men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and remain in police custody today.
Det Insp Jim Church, from force CID, said:
“This is a sophisticated, organised crime operation that has clearly been running for some time, but which we’ve now been able to dismantle.
“We’ll be working throughout the day to establish the full scale of it and make the property safe.”
