Pedestrian dies after collision in Erdington

A man has died after a collision with an articulated lorry in Erdington just before 10:50am this morning (05/12/2018).

The male pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police cordoned off the area and traffic was re-routed away from the scene.

Roads were closed off for specialist investigators to establish the particulars of what happened. Witnesses were also spoken with from local shops and businesses.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:

“The ambulance crew began a rapid assessment of the pedestrian, a man, and found he had sustained serious injuries.

“Sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.”

“Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes as several roads in the area remain closed to allow police to carry out an investigation.”

A local resident, said:

“I heard all this commotion going on outside. My partner saw what happened. I came over after. We’ve seen the man before. It’s just so sad.”

Traffic was affected throughout the morning as operations were carried out. The National Express West Midlands bus services 66, X3, X4 and X5 were affected.
