West Mids born TV & radio presenter Brad Baker reflects on life in new programme
SEDGLEY born broadcaster Brad Baker, 25, looks back at his high-octane life in a feature radio programme about his life so far.
Brad shares stories from across his career in entertainment, blended with some of his favourite tracks that take him back to key moments in his life so far.
Brad grew up in the West Midlands village of Sedgley on the Northway estate, attending both Alder Coppice Primary School and The Dormston Secondary School.
Little did he know then, he would go on to become the youngest person ever to present on UK sport television to date, hosting the motorsports show ‘Blood, Sweat and Gears.’
Brad was used to work in front of the camera. As a child, he was a catalogue model, regularly featuring in clothing brochures and advertisements. He was a regular across the popular UK brand NEXT.
Around the same time as his modelling, he also featured in stage productions, starring in The Wizard Of Oz. Later on, in adolescence, he went on to portray the antagonist in Queen’s We Will Rock You.
In 2015, he took to the stage at the O2 MANCHESTER, performing alongside soul legend Patti LaBelle. (In 1989 Patti famously sang the end credits song to the James Bond film Licence To Kill ‘If You Asked Me To’. In 2014, she performed for Barack Obama and Michelle Obama at the White House. She is a regular guest on Oprah and was an honoured invitee at Oprah’s Legends Ball.)
As well as recollections of his live work, Brad talks vividly about what he describes as one of his first loves: broadcasting. He recalls what it was like to present radio shows in the UK and overseas. In 2013/14, he presented a hit music weekend breakfast show, which transmitted to several networks, including a station in the Canary Islands.
Brad left the West Midlands borough of Dudley at the age of 18, where he lived in the southeast of Spain. Working alongside TOWIE’s Elliot Wright at his restaurant group, Brad describes life there as a “breath of fresh air.”
A year later, 2013, he hopped a short distance across the Mediterranean Sea, where he held a performance residency, singing, interviewing guests and sharing anecdotes six nights a week in the showroom of a five star resort in the Balearic Islands.
Featured across the programme are tracks from: Celiné Dion, ABBA, Whitney Houston, Chicane, Patti LaBelle, Coldplay, Elton John, Lighthouse Family, Shakira, Diana Ross and Tina Turner.
The programme was first broadcast on 01/09/2017.
